Civil Air Patrol Aircraft Makes Safe Emergency Landing

This is the press release that was provided to local media in Michigan yesterday. The mishap is still under investigation.

Civil Air Patrol Aircraft Makes Safe Emergency Landing

ESCANABA, Mich. – An engine malfunction during a routine training flight on Monday evening required a Civil Air Patrol aircrew to bring a disabled Cessna 172 aircraft safely to the ground. Actions by the pilot, Maj. Steven Adkins of Bay De Noc Flight, ensured no one was injured.
The CAP airplane was returning from a training mission in Houghton when it suddenly experienced a loss of engine power just west of Gladstone.

When it became clear the plane would not be able to safely land at Delta County Airport, the decision was made to land on a local roadway. After landing, the plane was pushed into a parking lot to allow traffic to return to normal.

The Federal Aviation Administration and CAP are investigating the incident.

On Feb 2 & 3, 2013, Group VI, Texas Wing, will be hosting a professional development weekend by having a Squadron Leadership School(SLS) and Corporate Learning Course(CLC) in Denton, TX. 

Classes will be conducted at US Aviation, 4850 Spartan Drive, Denton, TX.
